What CO2 can and cannot mark, when the job needs fiber or UV, and how much power engraving actually takes.

What can a CO2 laser engrave?

Wood, acrylic, glass, leather, slate, paper, and coated or anodized metals. CO2 is the broad workhorse for non-metal engraving and personalization.

Can a CO2 laser engrave bare metal?

Not directly. CO2 marks coated or anodized metal, or bare metal treated with a marking spray. For permanent marks on bare metal, use a fiber laser.

What laser marks metal permanently?

Fiber or UV — which marker do I need?

Fiber for most metal marking. UV for low-heat, fine-detail marks on sensitive plastics, electronics, and glass that fiber can discolor or damage.

Can you engrave glass with a laser?

Yes, with a CO2 laser. It frosts the surface for logos, text, and photos. Run low power and higher speed for a smoother, cleaner frost.

How much power do I need to engrave?

Engraving needs far less power than cutting. Most engraving is about speed, resolution, and material — not maximum wattage.
