What a desktop does well, and where it stops.
The EVO is real production equipment for small work. Its limits are physical, so they’re easy to check before you buy.
A good fit when…
- Coasters, small awards, ornaments, tile, flat glass and leather patches
- A spare room, a classroom or a retail counter: somewhere that isn’t a shop
- Proving a product line before you commit to a floor-standing machine
- Longer stock, which can pass through the machine front to rear
Look elsewhere when…
- Tall drinkware on a rotary. Height is the first limit a desktop hits; measure your tallest piece against 8″ of Z space.
Glass & drinkware → - Full sheets, big signs or all-day production runs. That’s bed area and duty cycle.
LS Series → - Bare metal. A CO₂ laser marks it only through a marking spray; a fiber marker marks it directly.
Metal marking → - Fine glass or precision ceramic, where CO₂ frosting is too coarse.

One model, built in.
Everything below is standard on the EVO. It’s a single configuration on the Boss store.
EVO Desktop
A 60 W CO₂ tube over a 24″ × 12″ bed, with the pieces a first machine usually needs already built in: a water cooler, an exhaust fan with venting pipe, a 5 MP camera and autofocus. Material longer than the bed can pass through front to rear.
EVO or LS?
The EVO next to the smallest LS.
The two beds are closer in size than people expect. The real difference is the kind of machine: desktop or production.

The EVO’s bed is wider; the LS-1420’s is a little deeper and runs faster, with four-way pass-throughs and a longer warranty.

What people ask before choosing an EVO.
Straight answers from Boss’s published specs.
Should I start with an EVO Desktop or an LS-1420?
Choose the EVO if the machine has to live in a room that isn’t a shop, you want the cooler and camera built in, or your pieces are small and flat. Its bed is the wider of the two.
Choose the LS-1420 if you expect to run production: it is faster (hybrid servo to 1,500 mm/s against the EVO’s 1,000 mm/s), passes stock through four sides, and carries a 2-year parts warranty. The full comparison is above.
Can the EVO engrave tumblers and glasses?
Yes, with the EVO Rotary. The limit is height: the EVO has 8″ of Z space, and a tall tumbler sitting on a rotary can run out of room before it runs out of bed.
Measure your tallest piece with the rotary under it, or send the part to the Spec Desk first.
Does the EVO need to be vented?
Yes. The EVO has a built-in exhaust fan with a venting pipe on a 4.75″ port. Run it outside, or into a FiltraBox Micro or a larger FiltraBox if venting outdoors isn’t possible.
What’s the warranty on the EVO?
Boss’s product page lists 1 year on parts and 6 months on the laser tube. Verify Boss’s EVO spec sheet contradicts itself on this, so confirm the warranty with Boss before relying on it.
