Can a fiber laser engrave glass?

No — a fiber laser cannot engrave clear glass. Its 1064 nm beam isn’t absorbed by glass; it passes straight through without leaving a mark. To engrave glass — tumblers, awards, panels, photos — you want a CO2 laser, whose 10.6 µm wavelength frosts the surface cleanly. Fiber is the tool for metal and many plastics, not glass. Why fiber doesn’t mark clear glass.

Engraving needs the material to absorb the beam. Clear glass is transparent to fiber’s 1064 nm light, so the energy passes through instead of heating the surface — no frost, no mark. This is the same reason fiber can’t cut clear acrylic. It’s a property of the wavelength, not a settings problem.

Use a CO2 laser for glass.
